2000-2009
2000

In March, Dairy Farm announced the sale of its 50% interest in DFI Geant, the Taiwan hypermarket JV, to Casino.

Giant Hypermarket, Singapore's first ethnic hypermarket, was officially opened on 7 July.

In September, Guardian Singapore acquired 23 stores from Apex Pharmacy International. Wellcome Taiwan expanded its supermarket operations with the acquisition of 12 stores from May Soon supermarket chain.

In October, 7-Eleven opened its 400th store in Hong Kong, further strengthening its leadership position in the convenient service marketplace.

2001

In February, Dairy Farm announced the sale of its Hong Kong-based distribution business, Sims Trading, to CITIC Pacific for US$58 million.

In August, 7-Eleven opened 11 convenience stores in Guangzhou; this represented the first phase of a development programme for Dairy Farm in Southern China.

PT Hero announced a US$10.4 million rights issue to fund its expansion plans.

Following a decision to exit from Australia, a managed sell-down of Franklins supermarket was undertaken and completed at the end of the year.

2002

In April, Dairy Farm repurchased some 10% of its share capital in a tender offer at a total cost of around US$130 million.

In June, Dairy Farm completed the sale of Woolworths, its supermarket business in New Zealand, for US$337 million.

Dairy Farm acquired IKEA Hong Kong and Taiwan in October.

In December, Dairy Farm commenced operations in South Korea through a 50:50 joint venture with CJ Corporation to operate health and beauty stores.

2003

In January, Dairy Farm acquired the 22-store Kayo supermarket chain, increasing Wellcome's network to 144 stores in Taiwan.

In March, Dairy Farm repurchased 10.3% of its issued share capital in a tender offer valued at around US$174 million.

In April, Dairy Farm's associate, PT Hero, acquired 22 Tops supermarkets from PT Ahold Indonesia, increasing PT Hero's network to 111 supermarkets in the country.

In May, Dairy Farm acquired 34 Tops supermarkets in Malaysia from Royal Ahold. The Tops supermarkets will be re-branded as Giant and Cold Storage, taking the number of supermarkets owned by Dairy Farm to 47 in Malaysia.

In November, Dairy Farm acquired 35 Shop N Save supermarkets in Singapore. This increase the number of the Group's supermarkets in Singapore to 75 stores.

2004

In June, Dairy Farm agreed to sell a property at FoTan, industrial area in the New Territories.

In September, Dairy Farm acquired the Daily Stop chain of convenience stores in Hong Kong from SCMP Retailing (HK) Limited. The acquired Daily Stop stores were re-branded as 7-Eleven convenience stores. The acquisition further strengthened the Group's presence in the Hong Kong retail sector.

The Group's Hong Kong ice manufacturing business was sold for US$107 million.

2005

The Group increased its effective interest in PT Hero supermarket in Indonesia to 69.1% following two tender offers and the purchase of a minority shareholding.

The Group had entered into new joint venture arrangements in Foodworld supermarkets and Health and Glow health and beauty stores in India. The revamped joint ventures initially operated 43 Foodworld stores and 32 Health and Glow stores, predominantly in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Dairy Farm operated 16 7-Eleven stores and 2 Mannings stores in Macau.

Dairy Farm entered the Thai market with the opening of its first Guardian store.

2006

In April, Dairy Farm marked its 120th anniversary by sponsoring the conversion of the last two remaining Dairy Farm cowsheds in Pokfulam into a performance venue, named the Wellcome Theatre.

In July, Dairy Farm was granted licences to operate stores in Vietnam as a wholly foreign-owned company. The Group entered the market through the acquisition of a few Citimart supermarket outlets. The first outlet was opened in Ho Chi Minh City in August.

In August, 7-Eleven Singapore has become the operator of Shell Singapore's retail network of 62 service stations. The first five convenience stores at Shell were converted in 2006.

In September, Dairy Farm announced its joint venture operation, 7-Eleven South China, opened its first franchise store in Shenzhen.

In November, Dairy Farm has launched ThreeSixty, Hong Kong's largest retailer of natural and organic foods. The store provides a wide range of natural and organic fresh produce, packaged groceries and environmentally friendly household goods, sourced from traditional artisans and producers from around the world.

2007

In March, 7-Eleven South China has acquired 110 Quik convenience stores in Guangzhou. The stores were rebranded as 7-Eleven after completion of the transaction.

In May, Foodworld has added a new dimension to its retail portfolio by opening the first Foodworld Gourmet store in Bangalore. The store incorporates Asian counter and European section with an extensive organic food section.

In June, the first Market Place by Jasons was opened in Hong Kong, bringing 'whole new food shopping experience' to the territory. The store offers high quality Asian-focused product range in a contemporary Western supermarket setting with an Asian touch. A second store was opened in July.

In October, Giant South Asia Vietnam rebranded its first supermarket in Ho Chi Minh City as “Wellcome Supermarket”.

In October, 7-Eleven Hong Kong has launched its new concept store focusing on fresh and fast food. A three-year refurbishment programme is being undertaken that will convert the majority of the 822 outlets into the “fresh food” format.

In December, Dairy Farm decided to cease Guardian Thailand operation effective 31 December 2007.

2008

In February, Dairy Farm sold its 50% interest in the Olive Young health and beauty operation in Korea to CJ Corporation.

Mannings China opened its first stores outside Guangdong province in Beijing City. During the year, Mannings China also extended its reach to Nanjing, Chongqing and Shanghai.

In March, the first Giant hypermarket was opened in Brunei, offering lower prices and greater choices for customers. The Company also acquired seven Guardian pharmacies from the franchisee in Brunei in February.

2009

In April, 7-Eleven Singapore opened a new concept store providing full service food counter. A wide range of sandwiches and ready-to-eat meals (local delights) were also launched to meet the customers' busy lifestyle need.

In July, Cold Storage Singapore launched its first ThreeSixty MARKET PLACE store at ION Orchard.

7-Eleven S China opened its 550th store in New City Zhujiang, Guangzhou on 16th October.

Mannings Hong Kong reached a milestone by opening its 300th store in December.
