At Dairy Farm, we believe our most important investment is our people. In this connection, our Future Leaders in Training Programme (FLIT) is aimed at nurturing and developing our next generation of business leaders.

As a result of Dairy Farm's current expansion both organically and geographically, we are targeting to groom a pool of Managers-in-Training (MITs) for future deployment as middle / senior managers within the Group in various key functions such as Operations, Merchandising, Marketing and Logistics.

On satisfactory completion of our two-year FLIT Programme, you can expect excellent career prospects within the Group. High fliers will have the opportunity to work under the Group's different retail brands and in different countries.

Programme Structure

The FLIT Program is designed to give trainees a comprehensive understanding of retail management. During the two-year period, trainees will be attached to various business units within Dairy Farm to gain the widest business exposure and learn essential retail management skills. Job rotation will be supplemented by classroom training, on-the-job coaching, mentoring and regular assessment of potential, performance, initiative and leadership.

The FLIT programme is divided into two development phases:

Phase One: Basic Retail Skills

  • This 6-month phase covers:
    • Basic retail skills
      (store operations, merchandising, finance, fresh food, marketing, customer service)
    • Personal development
      (Dairy Farm competencies, leadership, presentation skills, personal branding)
    • Team development
      (corporate culture, team-building, effective communications, managing & influencing change)
    • On-the-job training and assessments, individual and team projects

Phase Two: Attachment Programme

  • This phase is aimed at developing specialist skills. It incorporates an attachment program of up to 18 months at each of the following:
    • supermarkets/hypermarkets/convenience stores/health & beauty outlets
    • Merchandising Department
  • Tests / Assessments are carried out at the end of each attachment. This includes assigned projects (individual and team) to improve store / marketing / merchandising performance

At the end of the programme, trainees may be assigned as:

  • Supermarket store managers / assistant store managers
  • Hypermarket division heads / department heads
  • Health & Beauty senior store managers
  • Assistant category managers/buyers

All management trainees will continue to be mentored after the end of the two-year programme. A clear career progression path follows with a two-year job rotation plan drawn up for trainees. This is aimed at consolidating each individual's capabilities and making the best of his / her potential with suitable postings. Thereafter, advancements will depend on each individual's performance and the Group's requirements.

Selection Criteria & Application Procedures

In addition to academic qualifications, we seek candidates with exceptional personal qualities. To be considered for our FLIT Programme, you should have the following:

Educational Qualifications

  • University graduates (in any disciplines) with 2 to 3 years' working experience, preferably in retail or the fast-moving consumer goods industry
  • Fresh MBA graduates
  • Proven English proficiency

Personal Qualities

  • Strong leadership potential
  • A passion for retail
  • A creative mind, flexible thinking, resilient attitude and an ability to think laterally
  • Good communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Sensitivity to cultural issues
